The Christmas festivities continue in our area this weekend.
On Thursday, December 6, both Brookneal and Altavista are having their Christmas Parades. Brookneal's parade is at 7 p.m. called "Christmas Heroes." It will run from Main Street and will turn right at the railroad tracks onto Route 40 (Wickliffe Avenue) to the route's end at Brookneal Baptist Church. Altavista's parade is also 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. The theme is "The Lights of Christmas."
On Friday, December 7, bring your children to the downtown Lynchburg library for a special holiday story time. The Grinch and ABC 13's Dhomonique Ricks will be there reading "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" by Dr. Seuss. That's 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
Saturday, the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra presents, "Home for the Holidays." It's a concert featuring local musicians and singers who will perform all the holiday favorites. That's at the Academy Warehouse Theatre at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors and $10 for children, and you can buy those online.
Also Saturday, it's the Children's Holiday Festival at Amazement Square. Bring the whole family for interactive story time, crafts and a special holiday concert! Your kids can also take pictures with Santa and get a pancake breakfast. That's 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. and tickets are $20 per child and $10 for adults.
DeVault Family Vineyards has its Holiday Open House Saturday. From 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., you can see what local vendors are selling while enjoying some wine. Admission is free.
Sunday, come out to the Rustburg Christmas Parade. The parade is 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., and it will have antique cars, marching bands, fire trucks and floats. The route will run from Rustburg Elementary School along Route 24 toward Concord and run the loop behind the Campbell County Social Services building.
Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest is having a Holiday Open House Sunday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. It will be decorated for the season, and you can get in for free if you being a donation of non-perishable food for the Daily Bread of Lynchburg or for our furry friends at the Bedford Humane Society. There will be Christmas music, storytelling and other fun activities.
