High voter turnout expected, but not like 2008

// News // DC // VA // Hampton Roads

HAMPTON ROADS -- Voters packed the polls Tuesday morning all around Hampton Roads.

Though polling data suggests that today will not be a record turnout like in the 2008 election, where people waited hours to vote, there are still long lines.

13 News crews saw a line around the block at the Horace H. Epes Elementary School poll in Newport News.

There were more than 100 people in a line stretching down the street at the Courthouse Fire Station poll in Virginia Beach.

Viewers have been sending in photos of the lines at their polling places all morning, which you can see in the slideshow above.

VDOT warns people to be alert when driving near polling locations.

Crews will be monitoring traffic at polling places, and drivers should expect delays at interstate ramps within half a mile of polling places.

These interstate ramps include I-64 at Little Creek Rd, and I-264 at Ballentine Blvd, Lynnhaven Pkwy, and Birdneck Rd.
