Gov. McDonnell Marks Anniversary of Pearl Harbor Attack

// News // DC // VA

Flags are being flown at half-staff on all local, state and federal buildings and grounds in Virginia to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Gov. Bob McDonnell issued a proclamation recognizing Friday as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day in Virginia.

The governor also is scheduled to attend a ceremony and place a wreath at the Virginia War Memorial on Friday morning.

On Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese air forces attacked the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

More than 2,400 American military personnel were killed, including 44 Virginians. More than 1,175 others were wounded.

As part of the proclamation, McDonnell said it is fitting to honor those who have served in the military and reflect on their sacrifices and losses endured by their families and loved ones.
