(WJLA) - The elimination of funds from the 2009 economic stimulus will result in a decrease in the amount of food stamp benefits that people and families receive in Virginia.
Virginia's Department of Social Services says that most households that receive SNAP benefits will see a 5.4 percent decrease in their allotments starting in November. That means that a family of four, for example, will likely see $36 less per month in food stamps.
"For many households, this cut will be significant," said Thomas Steinhauser, the department's director of benefit programs.
The level of decrease depends on such things as household income, the number of people in the home and how much a family spends on monthly expenses.
