BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A fast-moving fire ripped through a warehouse in Dundalk. It happened in the 23-hundred block of Chesapeake Avenue.
Gigi Barnett explains backup came quickly.
Dramatic amateur video and pictures flooded the WJZ newsroom as neighbors close to a four-alarm blaze in Dundalk rushed from their homes in the middle of the night to capture it.
Firefighters say the overnight blaze inside the warehouse moved fast.
“It actually is some sort of welding company and right now, we are understanding that we have some material that could be hazardous if left burning,” said Baltimore Fire Spokesman Capt. Roman Clark.
In the morning light, the damage was clear.
“Every window was licked with flames. It just looks awful,” said homeowner Joe Stadler. “It looks awful.”
And neighbors were still watching when the fire briefly flared back up.
“I headed out early this morning and I was over off of Boston Street and you could still see the flames,” said homeowner Sue Stadler.
As firefighters battled the blaze last night, they were working in a heavy thunderstorm. Neighbors say the winds were so powerful, they pushed the hot embers back onto the community. You can see some of it left behind on the cars.
Firefighters say they will stay on the scene and continue to douse the hot spots to make sure the fire doesn’t rekindle. Meanwhile, the cause of the blaze is still a mystery.
One firefighter was injured while putting out the blaze. Doctors at a nearby hospital treated and released him.
