An Ohio University student has posed as a woman to get another man to send him nude pictures and then blackmail him into having sex, authorities have said.

Nineteen-year-old Dorian Graham, from Bedford Heights near Cleveland, allegedly struck up an online relationship with a 20-year-old student, pretending to be a woman.

'"She" began to flirt with him, and got to the point in which they sent naked pictures to each other over Snapchat,' Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn told 10TV.

Snapchat is a phone app that allows users to send photos or videos that automatically delete just seconds later - but Graham allegedly screen grabbed the images of his male victim.

Graham then allegedly posted them to Instagram and, still posing as the woman, told the victim that if he wanted her to delete them, he would have to engage in a sexual activity with another man.

Believing that he was being blackmailed by a woman, he went to Adams Hall on Ohio University's campus and engaged in sexual activity with Graham, who claimed he was also being blackmailed.

The encounter on September 23 was allegedly recorded so that Graham could continue to blackmail his victim, court documents state.

At the time the victim 'still thought it was a girl that was making him do this', Blackburn said.

After the sex act, the male student realized there was no woman and that he had been tricked, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

Graham then allegedly tried to blackmail the student again with the video of the sexual encounter, but the man contacted campus police.

Graham was indicted on November 25 and charged with sexual battery, attempted sexual battery, extortion and attempted extortion, which are felonies.

He pleaded not guilty on December 4 and has been released on bail.

'It was just another instance of social media and people being too free with their thoughts and what they're doing,' Athens County Prosecuting Attorney Keller Blackburn told WXIX.

'We have to remember that when we do things involving social media, that these things are out there forever.'

He is scheduled to go on trial in February.
