Type of Community and Homes Available: lnl966, Ketder Brothers, the sole developer, broke ground to begin Montgomery County's first new town. Since then 75,000 homes have been built, 45 communities devel- oped, 75,000 trees planted, and a road system constructed.

Today, about two-thirds completed, Montgomery Village is a family-oriented, totally planned, residential environment, close to the burgeoning technical research office industrial "1-270 Corridor." Its location means residents can enjoy the city life after a speedy commute and return to a community with plenty of open green space and recreational facilities.

Single family detached homes range from $150,000 to over $350,000; townhouses from $75,000 to $180,000; condos run from $45,000 to $150,000. Apartments rent from $700 to $1,500 (utilities included). Village House a 149-unit building for independent senior citizens includes meals, housekeeping, transportation, activities, and 24-hour security.

Tax Situation: Homes assessed at 40%/$100 of fair market value. Public Transportation: RIDE-ON bus to Rockville, with transfer to other county points. RIDE-ON bus every half hour 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to Gaithersburg points.

Shopping: 36 stores, post office, and 3 theaters in enclosed Village Mall. 50 to 60 stores located at Off-Price Mall. More stores and larger department stores at 100-store enclosed Lakeforest Mall.
