Type of Town and Homes Available: University Park is nestled in the wooded hills above the University of Maryland in College Park. A large park runs through town, and pear trees and azalea gardens colorfully adorn many of the homes in the spring. Most of the people in the town (incorporated in 1936) are professionals and work/teach at the University. The community age mix runs from first-rime home buyers to original settlers. Single-family homes sell from $140,000 to $285,000. The town is zoned entirely residential, and there are no apartments or office build- ings within the corporate limits.

Tax Situation: Owner-occupied homes are assessed at 40% of the full cash value.

Public Transportation: MARC commuter rail service in nearby College Park and Riverdale to D.C. and Baltimore. Two new stations. College Park and Prince Georges Plaza, opened. Metrobus slops are located in town and along the highways that border University Park (Rte. I, East-West Highway, Adelphi Road).

Public Facilities and Services: Electridty, gas, water, and sewer. Trash collection twice weekly, with frequent bulk pickups. Leaf collection. Town police force has 8 full-time officers. 3 fire stations in nearby Hyattsville, Riverdale, and College Park. The Hyattsville library, adjacent to the town, has 209,710 volumes, recordings and cassettes, with a special collection on Maryland historical and genealogical information and notable children's books. Public Schools: I elementary; middle and high schools within walking distance.

Private and Parochial Schools: 2 Catholic elementary schools in HyattsviUe within walking distance.

Places of Worship: I Presbyterian, I Church of the Brethren in town, I Catholic, I Christian (Disciples of Christ), I Latter Day Satins, I Lutheran, I Methodist, I Synagogue nearby. Organizations: Arts &c Crafts Club, Boys-Girls Clubs, Reading Council, Republican Club, Scout troops. Soccer league, Women's Club.

Recreational Facilities: A large town park runs through the center of University Park. There are tennis and bas- ketball courts, but none lighted and there are no indoor facilities. Recreational activities and a tot lot. Park and Planning Commission sponsors classes for children and adults at elementary school. Ice skating rink and pool in College Park, pool in Adelphi.

Medical Facilities: No medical buildings in town, but many nearby. Community Hospital in nearby Lanham.

Shopping: Neighborhood centers, P.G. Plaza, D.C. nearby.
