Type of City and Homes Available: Once a typical southern Maryland tobacco land crossroads, through which passed the main road to Chesapealae Bay beaches. Largo is slated by planners to become the new downtown of Prince Georges county and can be compared to the Tyson's Comer area in terms of mixed industrial and commercial development. Vast new commercial facilities are planned for Largo Centre adjoining the U.S. Air Arena, with 2.3 million square feet of office and retail space, and several thousand additional residential units.


Condominium apartment and single-family detached homes for 11,000 people were built and occupied in recent years. About 700 detached homes, 600 apartments and 1,076 townhouse units have been built surrounding the Northhampton golf course and full recreation facilities for the new communities are available. Mature single-family detached homes $115,000 to $250,000, townhouses $90,000 to $130,000, condominiums from $65,000 co $110,000, with rentals from $650 to $950.

Tax Situation: Owner-occupied homes assessed at 40% of full cash value.

Public Transportation: Metrobus service all day from Largo to the Addison Road and Capitol Heights Metrorail stations.

Public Facilities and Services: Electricity, water, gas, and sewer to entire community. Trash collections twice weekly. Police protection by 110 county officers stationed (near Bowie). Fire protection by 7 career, 8 paramedics and 28 volunteer firefighters at 2 substations ofKentland Volunteer Fire Department, across from college, Largo- Kettering public library has 63,672 books. Recreational Facilities: U.S. Air Arena is located here. 435-acre Watkins Regional Park with many facilities and activities including year-round tennis courts, nature center, campgrounds, miniature golf, miniature train and carousel. 3 neighborhood parks, including one with basketball and tennis courts; neighborhood swimming pools.

Medical Facilities: Physicians, dentists in nearby medical offices and shopping malls. Nearest hospital is Prince George's Hospital Center Cheverly (447 beds) 7 miles away; I nursing home.

Shopping: Largo Town Center and Lake Arbor Shopping Center; large Landover Mall on Beltway and Landover Road (Rte. 202) and a midsize mall at Beltway and Central Ave.
