Type of Community and Homes Available: An early farming community, Clinton
is 4 miles outside the Beltway, adjoining Andrews Air Force Base. It was named
Surrattsville in 1854 after John Surratt, local innkeeper and postmaster. After
Surratt's wife, Mary, was hanged for complicity in Abraham Lincoln's assassination,
the government changed the town's name to Robeystown and in 1878 to Clinton.
Townspeople remain convinced of her innocence, and the restored Mary Surratt
