Type of Community and Homes Available: A quiet tree-filled community, Berwyn Heights is located within minutes of the University of Maryland in College Park. Incorporated as a town in 1896, its government is very responsive to a concerned and active populace. A wide variety of architectural styles and older, renovated homes doi the community. Most single-family homes fall within the $90,000 to $ 1 $0,000 range. Townhouses are about $ 115,000. There are no apartments within the town; it is all zoned for single-family homes.

Tax Situation: Owner-occupied homes are assessed at 40% of the full cash value.

Public Transportation: MARC Commuter rail service to Washington and Baltimore. Nearest Metrorail station is about10 minutes away. There are several Metrobus stops on Greenbelt and Edmonston Rd.; primary desdnarion is Ne CarroUton, with various stops in Prince George's County. Call-A-Bus is provided through PGC.


Public Facilities and Services:
Electricity, gas, water and sewer are provided as well as leaf collection in the fall. Trash collection is twice weekly. Bulk pick-ups must be scheduled. Berwyn Heights Police force has 5 full-time and 3 part-time officers. One fire station located within the town, houses 5 career firefighters and 80 active volunteers. Public Schools:
Several elementary schools within 5 minutes of Berwyn Heights. Greenbelt Middle School less than a mile away; Parkdale Senior High, 3 miles away. No parochial or private schools in town but nearby.

Places of Worship:
Berwyn United Presbyterian is the only church within the town limits. However, within a 5- minute driving radius are Baptist, Catholic, Episcopal, Lutheran, and Methodist churches, as well as a Jewish Synagogue.

Organizations: Boys and Girls Club, Guideness Society, Homemakers, Ladies Auxiliary of the Fire Department, Majorettes, Quilting Club, Recreation Council, Scouts, Senior Citizens Center, Sportsmen's Club, Women's Club.

Recreational Facilities:
A town park with playground equipment features outdoor basketball courts. A sports park provides a lighted field for softball and baseball in spring and summer, and is lighted for football in the fall. There is one paddleball court. Indoor facilities include basketball courts and an elementary school gymnasium. There are competitive programs for softball, baseball, basketball, football, and soccer.

The town recreation council sponsors classes for children and adults as well as various events and social functions throughout the year. The Boys Club administers competitive sports for other areas in Maryland. There is a 1.5 mile hiker-biker trail. Senior Citizens Center with planned programs, trips, dinners, meetings. Medical Facilities: Numerous physicians and dentists. 3 medical buildings within town.


Shopping:
Beltway Plaza. Regional Mall, accessible by public transportation, with approximately 100 stores, is located adjacent to town.
