Type of Town and Homes Available: Situated 850 feet above sea level on the summit of a range of hills known as Parrs Ridge, Mt. Airy has scenic beauty enhanced by stretches of lower country on the east and the Blue Ridge Mountains on the west. This is the Piedmont section, which contains the best farm land in the state.

Mt. Airy was incorporated in 1896 and is of residential character. While most of Mt. Airy is in Carroll County, a por- tion is in Frederick. It is about one mile from Rte. 1-70, connecting Frederick City and Baltimore. Mount Airy has been the fastest growing municipality in Carroll County, with a 47% growth rate in the 80s. Home values range from $130,000 to $280,000, townhouses from $104,000 to $140,000. Apartment rentals average $600-$800 per month.

Tax Situation:
Homes are assessed at 40% of market value. 10% amusements/admission tax.

Public Facilities and Services:
Electricity, water, gas, and sewer to entire town. Trash collected once a week, mandatory recycling once a week, with special cleanups twice a year. Police protection provided by 5 resident State Police. Fire department with approximately 100 active volunteers. Mt. Airy public Library (410) 795-1010 and (301) 829-5290 with more than 55,000 volumes, has story hours for children and some programs for all ages. The Library is open Mon.-Th. 9:30 a.m. to 8:45 p.m., Fri, and Sat. 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Sundays.

Public Schools:
2 elementary (I in Carroll and I in Frederick K-5), I middle (6-8). Frederick County children attend New Market elementary and middle schools. Parochial Schools: I Mennonite, grades K-12 just outside city limits; IFuU Gospel Christian, grades pre-K-12.

Places of Worship: I Assembly of God, I Baptist, I Church of the Latter Day Saints, I Episcopal, I Mennonite, 2 Methodist.

Organizations: American Legion and Women's Auxiliary, Drama Club, Eastern Star, 55+ Club, 4-H, Gard Club, Homemakers Club, lzaak Walton League, Jaycees, Kiwanis, Kiwanis Wives, Lions, Masons, Scouts, Senior Citizens Center, VFW.

Recreation Facilities: Prospect Park, 4-acre town park with pond, picnic sites, and playground; Watkins Park a 5-acre park with 2 softball fields, tennis and multipurpose courts and picnic pavilion. Local recreation program, based at schools, offers boys' soccer league, summer playgrounds for pre school through age 12, youth evening activities such as movies and sports, and arts and crafts.

Shopping: 3 shopping centers; additional shopping in Frederick and Gaithersburg.
