Like no other city, Washington DC is steeped in the history of America. But current events, nature, entertainment and the arts have also been given an especially important place in the fabric of this city.
The John F. Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts is an excellent example of Washington's commitment to the future as well as its reverence for the past. Unlike most other presidential memorials, the Kennedy Center is not simply an historic monument. Rather, to memorialize John F. Kenndy, a grand center for performance including music, dance and film of all kinds was opened in 1971.
The more casually-inclined visitor can find a total diversion from history in two of the more natiural source of entertainment. The National Zoological Park, established by the Smithsonian Institution in 1889, is famous for its variety of animals and birds from all world. The United States Botanic Garden is tranquil oasis of plant life ranging from desert specie vegetation.
